Anatolia Meetings

Garanti is getting together with the SMEs and seeking joint solutions for mutual problems.

Since 2002, Garanti, together with Dünya Newspaper and in cooperation with the chambers of industry and commerce in the cities that are visited, has been organizing the Anatolia Meetings. Widely recognized as the Garanti Anatolia Meetings in the media, the series of meetings have been held in 45 cities to date.

As some of our cities play a vital role in our country's economy, they have hosted several meetings due to a crisis they have encountered or a positive development they have shown. Therefore, a total of 58 meetings have been held in 45 cities.

Held for the first time on May 17, 2002 in Gaziantep, the Anatolia Meetings have been organized in Adana, Adapazarı, Adıyaman, Afyonkarahisar, Antakya, Antalya (6 times),  Aydın, Bafra, Bodrum, Bolu, Bursa (2 times), Çanakkale, Çorum, Denizli (2 times), Diyarbakır (2 times), Düzce, Edirne, Elazığ, Erzurum, Eskişehir, Gaziantep (2 times), Giresun, Isparta, Kahramanmaraş, Kars, Kayseri (2 times), Kocaeli, Konya (2 times), Kütahya, Malatya, Manisa, Mardin, Marmaris, Mersin, Nevşehir, Niğde, Rize, Ordu (2 times), Samsun, Sivas, Tekirdağ, Trabzon (2 times), Urfa, Uşak and Van.

Through the meetings conducted by Osman Saffet Arolat, the editor-in-chief of Dünya Newspaper, views on subjects such as regional plans, opportunity analyses and market evaluations have been exchanged with nearly 19.000 SMEs.

The meetings are being held with the objective of reviewing the changing economic and market conditions in light of the changing world, evaluating local and international opportunities, examining potential business areas and seeking local solutions together with the local industrialists and managers.

Some of the guest speakers who have attended the Anatolia Meetings are: Prof. Dr. Asaf Savaş Akat, Ethem Sancak, Dr. Mahfi Eğilmez, Prof. Dr. Ercan Tezer, Prof. Dr. Aleaddin Asna, Prof. Dr. İlhan Tekeli, Vural Öger, Prof. Dr. Artun Ünsal, Faruk Pekin, Christopher Stopes, Ahmet Barut, Prof. Dr. Güngör Uras, Fazıl Oral, Prof. Dr. Taner Berksoy, Prof. Dr. Arman Kırım, Prof. Dr. Korel Göymen, Dr. Bahadır Kaleağası, Oktay Varler, Wally Olins...

In the cities where the Garanti Anatolia Meetings are being organized, brainstorming sessions, headed by Prof. Dr. Kenan Mortan,  are also being held prior to the meetings. In these sessions, professionals from the city's leading sectors reveal the problems of the city and the sectors, and share their views about today and their projections about the future. The programs of the Garanti Anatolia Meetings are prepared during these joint brainstorming sessions in light of the information, views and data received from the city's professionals. The experts invited to the meetings, also by using this data, explore and analyze the future of the city's economy in their presentations.

With the start of Turkey's EU membership negotiations in 2005, Garanti has felt the need to also include the EU accession dimension in the meetings. To reveal the EU oriented projects that have been realized and need to be initiated in these cities through our journey that leads to our full membership to the EU, we have launched a newspaper exclusive to each city under the editorship of Nurdan Bernard Türkmen.

This year, due to the global crisis that we have encountered, we have placed our SMEs, the backbone of our economy, at the center of the Garanti Anatolia Meetings Newspaper. With 35 published issues, the Garanti Anatolia Meetings Newspaper is continuing to meet with professionals throughout Anatolia and striving to make the knowledge accumulation generated through these meetings permanent.
