    For Turkey's Future...

Garanti Bank has launched a long-range project aimed at contributing towards the development of an educational model in our country that encourages people to think, ask questions, and explore. Under this project, called "No Limits in Teaching", Garanti has signed a five-year agreement with the Ministry of National Education to organize activities aimed at fostering the personal and professional development of teachers.

Garanti has allocated 15 million TL in funding of the project, which got under way within the 2008-2009 academic year and whose objective is to reach 100,000 teachers. Moreover, with this aim, Garanti founded the "Teachers Academy Foundation", and thus created a sustainable institutional framework for the conduct of the project.

Headquartered in Istanbul, the primary objective of the foundation is to respond to the needs of teachers who will help raise new generations of young people who are aware of their individual and social responsibilities; who are probing, inquisitive, and capable of analytical thought; who are self-confident; who attach importance to continued personal development; who identify with universal values; and who are willing to accept responsibility for our national cultural heritage. The foundation will be supporting national and international efforts to contribute towards the professional and individual development of teachers and others who undertake educational responsibilities on behalf of society, and it will also be taking maximum advantage of the internet and other means afforded by technology in order to increase the size of its audience. The foundation will also engage in research and it plans to organize programs that will encourage teachers to do the same.

    The project

Having started in May 2009, so far 10,000 teachers in 272 schools across 32 cities have been  reached. In the upcoming years the project aims to expand across the country. Participation in the project, which is voluntary and free of charge, is open to all primary school teachers, administrative personnel, and inspectors. Schools who would like to attend the training can submit their applications online via foundation’s web site. At the trainings which are organized at the teachers’ own scools, main topics of  “communication”, “classroom management” and “evaluation” are covered. Those who take part in the program do also receive ministry-approved certification. Moreover, teachers who attended the “No limits to teaching” project continue their both personal and professional developments with their eKampüs website subscription.

The first project: "No Limits in Teaching"

Teachers Academy Foundation’s first project is "No Limits in Teaching". This name was chosen for two reasons. The first is to draw attention to the fact that education is a process that doesn't just prepare the individual for life but rather is life itself, and is thus a lifelong journey. The second is that teachers are never simply satisfied with what they already know, they do not recognize boundaries for the fulfillment of the important responsibilities they undertake, and they are always focused on improvement.

Garanti believes that only by increasing the number of teachers who are modern, democratic, enlightened, tolerant, productive and self-confident; whose guiding principle is to keep on learning and renewing themselves throughout their lives; who are at peace with themselves and with those around them; and who are able to think critically and express their thoughts civilly, will it become possible to educate future generations who regard the essential value of learning and education.
