Being a Garanti Employee
About Being A Garanti Employee
Emre Özmen
Marmara University / Business Administration in German, 1999
2. Degree Inspector
I have graduated from Marmara University Business Administration in German program in 1999. I started working at the Garanti Bank Inspection Committee Directorate right after my graduation. The first suggestion I can offer to those who want a career in banking based on my experiences is that they should start at a unit that they feel the closest affinity to. For this, they will need some basic information about the banking organization. I think I can provide relevant information about the Inspection Committee as I am a part of it.
During my tenure, I have participated in the periodic audit and special inspection projects of domestic and overseas branches, units and subsidiaries. Through these projects, I have accumulated more knowledge and experience with each passing day. This experience enhances the ability to manage in various situations and enables inspectors to become trainers and consultants in time within the organization. Certainly, on-the-job training is essential in reaching this level of knowledge and experience. As the members of the committee, we share all our knowledge with our associates without hesitation and believe that knowledge increases as shared.
When my school was over, just like most of you are feeling right know, I didn't want a desk job with little room for change. That's why, the frequent business trips of the Inspection Committee employees were a favorable factor for me. The fact that the Inspection Committee offers the opportunity to travel and work at different different locations, makes it a great starting point for those who want to learn about different cultural and working environments even within Turkey.

Inspector
I have graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences in 2000. After military service and 1 year work experience (non-audit) at another bank, I have started working at the Garanti Bank Inspection Committee Directorate in 2003.
My first work experience after the university and the military service was important in terms of enabling me to get used to banking in general. However, upon my observations during this period, to learn about different areas of banking and to become a good manager, I chose the inspection profession which I believed would be a better start for me.
During my tenure, I have undertaken many tasks at the Garanti Bank Inspection Committee. The tasks and team management responsibilities undertaken at an early stage after a certain level of seniority provide you with the opportunity to rapidly improve your communication and managerial skills while also acquiring knowledge in various areas. Most importantly, in time, your comprehension, planning and managerial skills improve. All these, when combined with Garanti Bank's innovative structure, wide range of products and investments in the human capital, increase the importance of the experience acquired even more.
Certainly, having the right start during the initial years of your career is very important. If you are interested in this field, the Garanti Bank Inspection Committee is a valuable career start where you can experience a competitive yet collective awareness and make a difference.
